Raging Miami Fire Creates Neighborhood Chaos

Residents flee as tanker causes explosion

Residents of a Miami neighborhood were rocked Thursday night by a massive explosion after a propane gas fire ripped through a Northwest Miami-Dade business.

The fire started around 7:30 p.m. at Florigas at 3010 Northwest 23rd Terrace, causing a massive response from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, which sent nearly 40 trucks and over 150 firefighters to the scene.

The intense flames were seen towering above buildings and trees and could be seen from blocks away.

Rescue workers evacuated the area after the fire ball sent some residents into a panic.

"People were running away, people running all around the place, they didn't know what to do," said one resident. "Shook me up."

According to officials, the fire started when the driver of a tanker truck, who was refueling at Florigas, pulled away without disconnecting the hose line, igniting the tank.

Firefighters from the county and city worked for two hours to put the blaze out. No one was injured in the fire, officials said.
