Death Threat Made Against Sen. Marco Rubio by Member of Venezuelan Ruling Party: Report

A recent report indicates that one of the ranking members of Venezuela’s ruling Socialist Party may have issued a death order against an outspoken critic of that government – U.S. Senator and Miami native Marco Rubio.

The Miami Herald reports Diosdado Cabello issued the order against Rubio in a memo. Both Cabello and Rubio have publicly feuded over the Venezuela crisis.

A security detail has been protecting Rubio both when he has been working in Washington D.C. and in South Florida over the past few weeks.

The news comes at the same time that Vice President Mike Pence spoke directly about Venezuela from neighboring Colombia just yesterday.

Pence emphasized how the Trump administration wants to see democracy restored in the country – something in question after recent moves by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

“We have many options for Venezuela. But the president also remains confident that working with all of our allies across Latin America we can achieve peaceable solution to the crisis facing the Venezuelan people,” Pence said.

The vice president is visiting four countries in Latin America. He spoke with Colombia’s president, Juan Manuel Santos, who condemned any suggestion of military intervention by the United States.
