Boy, 15, Drowns in Cutler Bay Park: Police

The young victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

A 15-year-old boy is dead after drowning at a Cutler Bay Park Sunday afternoon, police said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pulled the victim, Armani English, out of a lake at Saga Bay Park at Southwest 205th Street and 80th Court around 4 p.m.

Officials said English was transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital South, where he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses said it took the divers some time to find the victim and pull him out of the water.

The victim had been playing in the water with a large group of friends when he started to drown, according to witnesses.

"I saw him come up about twice and then he went down," said one witness. "He came up and took a breath, then went back down. His friend behind him was screaming to the other friends, 'He's drowning, he's drowning. Please help him.' But they turned back and I guess thought he was playing around, as kids do."

English's father, a Miami police officer who responded to the scene, was visibly upset and was being consoled by fellow officers.
