Rescued Man a “Miracle” Find in Haiti

A Haitian man survived 28 days under rubble with no food

A Haitian man buried under the rubble of a grocery store for nearly four weeks was rescued Monday night and may have set a world record for the longest stretch of survival after a natural disaster, doctors are saying.

The 28-year-old man miraculously suffered no real physical injury, but is extremely dehydrated and malnourished, reports JustNews.com.

A woman in Haiti who claims she is the man's mother said her son needs blood.

But the fact that anyone has survived this long in the devastation in Port-au-Prince may rejuvenate hopes that others have survived. Hait recently raised the death toll to over 230,000 from the 7.0 earthquake that rocked the capital city on Jan. 12.

Rescue efforts have turned to clean up for the past two weeks as many experts believed no one could survive in such dire conditions, especially without water.

"This is just unbelievable because to our knowledge nobody has ever survived this long," Dr. Barth Green told JustNews.com. "I think he's set a world record. His family never gave up. It'll be quite a story when fully told."

The man is currently being treated at the Miami's Medishare Project facility on the island. He hasn't eaten in 28 days, doctors said. He told doctors he drank water from the marketplace while he was buried.
