Residents Have Big Bill After Hailstorm

Hailstorm leaves a big clean up for shocked residents

Some South Florida residents are opening up their wallets after the skies opened  up over the weekend, unleashing pellets of hail.

Weston got the worst of the hailstorm at around 4 p.m. and it lasted for 30 minutes, residents said.

In the aftermath on Hawks Court in Weston, screens were ripped down to make room for new ones and neighbors compared sizable damage.

"First it was small balls of ice, then they started growing bigger and bigger," Eduardo Haddad said.

"We've never seen anything like this," Haddad's 11-year-old son, Leonardo said. "The hail was so big it was pounding the roof."

During the worst of it, some homeowners grabbed their cameras and took video.

The storm left flooding, cars dented, and holes in window screens.

That's where Walter Morgan, with Morgan Screening Incorporated, comes in. He was going door-to-door Monday giving homeowners estimates to fix their damaged screens.

He said it would take weeks for him to process all the orders for repairs.

"I'd be at one house and someone would call me on the phone and it'd be four houses down," Morgan said.
