Residents Moving Out After Car Plowed into North Lauderdale Home

The driver was cited and the victims continue to recover from minor injuries.

Less than 24 hours after a car plowed through a North Lauderdale home, the residents are packing up what they've got left and moving out.

"The city told us we can't stay here," resident Gloria Sookie said. "We have to move out."

The car crashed into the home Friday evening as Sookie's daughter Tania Blake and her three children were inside. Blake's two boys were in the garage, but the car went straight into the kitchen, ending up right between Blake and her 6-year-old daughter.

"I thought it was an earthquake," Blake said. "I remember everything keep coming down on me, but all I had to do was close my eyes."

Her daughter Davia was watching cartoons on TV when it happened.

"I see the TV shut off and then everything came on me," Davia said.

Blake remembers being in a panic and looking for her children through all the debris.

"When I turned around to go check on them I realized I couldn't move, so my eldest son came to my rescue," she said.

Blake and her daughter were transported to a local hospital following the crash, but they are now home recovering from their injuries. Blake's leg was fractured and her daughter's hand was injured.

Gloria Icilda Dorman Lee, the 76-year-old woman who plowed her car into the home, was cited for driving with a suspended license and failing to provide proof of insurance, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The driver said she thought another car was going to crash into her as she drove west on the Boulevard of Champions, so she swerved, but her brakes failed and she over corrected, the BSO said.

Meanwhile, Blake is just glad she survived the harrowing event.

"Thank God I'm alive and thank God my daughter is alive, because it could've been worse," she said.
