A retired race horse was rescued after it was found on the side of the road in Homestead with a sore covering the majority of its back, the South Florida SPCA announced.
El Bombi was rescued by the SPCA at SW 152nd Street and 200th Avenue and was identified by his tattoo. The organization called it a case of animal abuse.
The horse competed three times in 2008 at Calder Race Course. His races and one first-place finish earned $4,199.
Anyone wishing to donate to El Bombi’s recovery can do so here or make a check payable to SFSPCA, 15476 NW 77 Court, #440, Miami, FL 33016.
The South Florida SPCA currently has 70 horses on the ranch.
