Retired Trooper's Ring Found, Returned Years After Being Stolen From Weston Car

More than two years since being stolen, a family heirloom is back in the right hands thanks to the hard work and persistence of the Broward Sheriff’s office.

This ring, stolen in late 2016 belongs to a retired New York state trooper Richard Martino - who handed it down to his son in Weston. The ring is 32 years old and was for graduation from the police academy.

Police later found the ring in the possession of a burglar – but with only initials engraved on it, it took eight months to track down the owner.

“It was something that was very important to him and our family,” said his son, Richard Jr. “So I’m thankful and blessed for (BSO) Detective (Chris) Bradley and his efforts and perseverance to really stay on top of this and be able to find it.”

“It was personal because it was not just a victim of a burglary, but it was also a fellow law enforcement officer who had been victimized and was missing his property so we wanted to do our best to get it back to him,” said Bradley.

Martino Jr. says he still got a “tongue lashing” from his father when he told him about the stolen ring. But in the end, everybody is just really grateful they have it back.
