Reward Increased for Information on Security Guard's Murder

New details have been released surrounding the death of a South Florida security guard.

Police stepped up their search on Wednesday and increased the reward money for any information that leads them to the killer.

Miami-Dade Police handed out fliers at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Metrorail Station where the deadly incident happened.

"I'm sorry for what happened to the guy. I don't even know the guy. But If I was in the same situation, I hope someone would do the same for me," said Reggie Wilson.

Police are looking for the person who shot and killed Keith Cox, 49, who was working the night shift two weeks ago. The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 25.

Detectives believe the motive was robbery.

"He was approached by this unknown subject who shot him in cold blood and took his belt that had his handgun," said Det. Jorge Arana.

Investigators said Cox was shot not too far from where people come in and out of the station, but just slightly out of view of the security cameras.

The lack of security footage makes things harder for Investigators. The night it happened police talked to eyewitnesses. They said all they know about the shooter is that he is a black man with a thin build and that he jumped into a waiting vehicle that took off after it happened.

Police hope fliers they're distributing might land into the hands of more witnesses or people who know more about the crime. They said tips from the public are crucial as they continue to work the case.

The reward for information that leads to an arrest has been increased from $3,000 to $5,000. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
