What to Know

  • A total of 12 guests were on the ride at the time, but Orlando Fire Department officials said no injuries were reported.

Several guests at Universal Studios’ Orlando theme park got more than they paid for Wednesday morning – as they were safely brought down from a roller coaster that got stuck.

NBC affiliate WESH-TV reported that riders on the Rip Ride Rockit attraction were forced to walk down a flight of stairs just after 9:30 a.m. after the ride stopped.

A total of 12 guests were on the ride at the time, but Orlando Fire Department officials said no injuries were reported.

Park officials said the incident was caused by a "technical glitch."

"The ride did exactly what it was supposed to do and brought the ride to a safe and controlled stop. We have helped our guests off the ride. We are working to reopen the ride as soon as possible," the park said in a statement.

Universal Orlando is owned by Comcast and NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC and WTVJ-TV
