Robber Caught in “High-Risk Takedown” in Miramar: Police

The suspect used an iPhone for his robbery note in one incident, police said

Police said they arrested a bank robber in a “high-risk takedown” after he committed heists at two banks in Pembroke Pines and Miramar on Tuesday.

He is wanted not only for multiple robberies in South Florida but also for ones in Georgia and Texas, authorities said.

The suspect robbed a Wells Fargo at 12440 Pines Blvd. at about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, then went immediately to Miramar, where he quickly robbed a Chase Bank at 1100 Pembroke Road, police said.

Pembroke Pines Police Capt. Sean Hemingway, who followed the suspect, said he walked toward and entered the Chase Bank and then left it soon thereafter with a bag rolled up in his hand. He got into his car and left the parking lot before police quickly apprehended him, Hemingway said.

“During the high-risk takedown, an outline of a bulletproof vest appeared in his shirt,” and the man also had a loaded handgun in his waistband, Hemingway said.

“Upon the takedown, it was obvious that the suspect was prepared for an armed encounter, and the safe responses and the quick responses prevented that today,” he said.

Man in Red Shirt, Shorts Robbed Bank: FBI

The suspect has not yet been identified. Capt. Larry Diaco said police are still working to confirm his identity.

He was arrested in a black polo shirt, and wore polo shirts and sweatshirts in at least two robberies in Pembroke Pines – but he also wore a long hair wig underneath a ballcap in one incident, Diaco said.

“This suspect was unique in that he used an iPhone in one of the robberies to tell the bank teller that they were being robbed,” Diaco said, referring to a heist at a Chase Bank on the 14900 block Pines Boulevard. “He’s also wanted across the country for other robberies, and the FBI believes that he was involved in a robbery in Georgia and in Texas.”
