Robber Hammers Away Jewelry Display Window

Thief breaks bulletproof window to steal gold chains in Kendall

A smash and grab at a Kendall jewelry store left behind a big hole in the inventory early Wednesday morning.

Just before 4 a.m., someone busted through the front window at Five Star Jewelers on Southwest 88th Street, owner Henry Ravelo said.

The store’s video surveillance shows a dark Mitsubishi sedan pulling up in front of the store and a passenger dressed from head-to-toe in blue getting out and then banging away at the glass until it breaks.

The thief then grabs jewelry from the display before taking off.

Ravelo said the hammer smashed through the bulletproof glass and that he was robbed of several chains on display.

“It’s thousands of dollars. Obviously we’re trying to make money,” Ravelo told NBC 6. “The economy is not the greatest and we’re trying to do the best we can and obviously we have people out there that are trying to do it the wrong way.”

The man in blue and the driver of the sedan are still on the loose.

“Hopefully we can catch them,” Ravelo said.

Police haven't given any information in the robbery..
