Robbery Suspect Shoots Himself After Cops Find Him in Coral Gables

A suspect in an armed robbery of a Miami cellphone store shot and killed himself after police tracked him down in Coral Gables Tuesday night, officials said.

The incident began when the suspect robbed the store at 7000 Southwest 8th Street around 9 p.m., stealing telephone equipment and cash, Miami-Dade Police officials said.

The suspect fled the store but officers were able to track him using the equipment he had stolen. Officers tracked the suspect down to the area of Salzedo Street and Alcazar Avenue and before they were able to take him into custody, he shot himself with his own weapon, officials said.

The man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where he died of his injuries. His identity hasn't been released.
