Rothstein Bankruptcy Attorneys Spar With Don King

Bankruptcy attorneys want Rothstein sponsor money back from boxing promoter

Bankruptcy attorneys in the Scott Rothstein Ponzi case have found a new sparring partner: boxing promoter Don King.

The attorneys filed suit against Don King Productions Tuesday in the hopes of getting back $700,000 Rothstein paid to sponsor one of King's fights, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The former Fort Lauderdale lawyer sponsored the 2009 "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" at the BankAtlantic Center to promote his Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler law firm and many business enterprises.

The sponsorship money got Rothstein advertising, VIP tickets and even a shout out from King in promotional materials advertising the fight.

"I am so happy my friend Scott Rothstein of Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler Attorneys at Law has come on board as a sponsor, bringing his prestige and sparkling brands that include V Georgio Vodka, The BOVA Restaurant Group, Renato Watches and Qtask," King wrote in the promo.

But bankruptcy attorneys want that money back, saying its subject to a clawback lawsuit because it didn't directly benefit the now-defunct law firm.

"All those entities, not RRA, benefitted by that money," trustee attorney John Genovese told the Sun-Sentinel.

A representative for Don King Productions, based in Deerfield Beach, declined comment.

Rothstein pleaded guilty in January 2010 to five charges stemming from the $1.4 billion scheme, which was used to fund his lavish lifestyle, including his several businesses, large homes and luxury sports cars.

The 49-year-old is currently serving a 50-year prison sentence at an undisclosed location.
