It’s back again – the Ultra Music Festival returns with 50,000 to 60,000 people expected to travel to Bayfront Park each day for the huge event.

“We have SWAT element that’s going to be working, we have air unit that’s going to be working, we have cameras that we will be placed all along Biscayne Boulevard so we can watch it real time what’s going on,” said Chief Jorge Colina.
Police will also have officers in plain clothes working in crowds, and they’re also working with the FBI.
“We live in a post Las Vegas world right now, and similarities between our downtown core and what happened in Vegas brings cause for concern,” said city commissioner Ken Russell.
The event comes less than six months after a deadly shooting last October when a gunman unleashed rapid fire from the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas hotel, killing 59 people and injuring more than 500 others during a country music festival.

“If somebody wanted to go upstairs and also have that birdseye view like in Vegas, we’re better able to handle that if that were to occur,” said Colina.
Overall, law enforcement wants you to have a great time – but they urge visitors that if you see something, say something.
“If they alert us, then we have the ability to broadcast that to all the policeman that are working and hopefully avoid something from happening,” Colina said.
