Sailor Critical After Being Shot in North Lauderdale: BSO

Anthon Adams, an active duty sailor visiting from Georgia, was shot multiple times while standing outside of his mother's apartment building.

A U.S. Navy sailor is in critical condition after he was shot on Thanksgiving night in front of his two young daughters.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex on the 7400 block of SW 10th Court in North Lauderdale around 8:30 p.m., according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. Anthon Adams, an active duty sailor visiting from Georgia for the holiday, was shot multiple times after he tried to break up a fight outside of his mother's apartment building.

At first, Adams' mother thought the noise came from firecrackers. Then she saw her son bleeding at the bottom of the stairs.

"When I heard the noise, the kids run in screaming and I thought they were just scared because of the firecrackers," said Sandra Adams, Anthon's mother. "I said, 'What happened?' and they started crying, 'Daddy got shot, somebody shot my daddy and he's dead.'"

Adams was rushed to Broward Health North as a trauma alert. He is listed in critical condition.

His mother describes her son as good man and a loving father.

"He lives for his kids," Adams said. "People just gravitate toward him. He's just a loving person."

BSO said the suspects fled the scene. Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
