Schools, Courthouse in South Florida Placed on Lockdown After Reported Threats Day After Parkland Shooting

In the wake of Wednesday’s horrific mass school shooting in Parkland, several South Florida schools and one courthouse were placed on lockdown over various potential threats.

The Archdiocese of Miami put schools under a “code yellow” lockdown based on threats made to public and private schools as a precautionary measure. Parents are not allowed to pick up students at this time.

North Broward Prep placed their school on lockdown shortly after 9:30 a.m. after reports of shots being fired. BSO deputies responded and did not find anything, however a deputy responding did accidently fire his gun and suffered a minor leg injury.

Broward Sheriff Scott Israel said threats made to other area schools were being investigated Thursday. "Sadly there have been copycat threats made today at other schools," he said.

In Miami-Dade County, the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building was placed under a “code brown” shortly after 10 a.m., which was lifted about 30 minutes later amid reports that a woman made it through a checkpoint with two loaded gun magazines.
