Scott Names 2 New Members of Miami-Dade Expressway Authority

Carlos Fernandez-Guzman, 55, of Miami Lakes and Jose Hevia, 51, of Miami are due to serve through April 2014.

Governor Rick Scott announced Thursday his appointment of two local business leaders to the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority.

Carlos Fernandez-Guzman, 55, of Miami Lakes and Jose Hevia, 51, of Miami were both appointed to terms lasting through April 6, 2014.

Fernandez-Guzman has been president of Pacific National Bank since last year, and before that was a senior executive vice president of BankUnited F.S.B. from 2003 to 2010.

The latter bank went bust in May 2009 and was shut down by federal regulators, but its assets were acquired by a new savings bank, known as BankUnited.

Fernandez-Guzman has been a member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce since 1983 and served as chairman of its board of directors, and has served in two roles at Florida International University since 2004.

Hevia has been president of Miami-based Aligned Properties since 2000, and was president and CEO of Flagler Development Co. from 1987 to 2011, according to Scott’s office.

Hevia is on the board of directors of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami and of the United Way of Miami-Dade.

The two new members succeed Jorge Vigil and Nikul Inamdar, respectively.

The Expressway Authority, or MDX, controls five heavily trafficked east-west roads in Miami-Dade, including the Airport Expressway, Dolphin Expressway, and Don Shula Expressway.
