Two Men Flee Stolen Truck, Jump Into Waters off Key Biscayne: Police

Police have resumed the search for a second person they say jumped out of a stolen truck into the waters off the Rickenbacker Causeway near Key Biscayne.

Officers noticed a truck with two bicycles on it traveling on Key Biscayne early Wednesday morning and followed in due to a recent string of robberies. The truck fled and police cancelled their pursuit. Moments later, a Miami-Dade Police officer noticed the same car and ran a check – where the truck came back as stolen from Broward County.

At that point, two men jumped out of the truck and into the water off the causeway. One of the men swam back to police after being ordered to do so, but the other was not immediately found.

"One of them complied, the other stayed out in the water," said Key Biscayne Police Chief Charles Press. "The last time they saw him they saw his head bobbing, after that they lost sight of him."

The man who swam back, 32-year-old David Delgado, will be charged with 3rd-degree grand theft and resisting arrest without violence, police said.

Police said the second suspect turned himsel in two days later. He is identified as 31-year-old Manuel Ferradas. He is charged with grand theft, resisting arrest and burglary.
