Searchers Find Body of Missing Florida Hiker in Alaska

Juneau searchers have found the body of a Florida man who went hiking alone on Mount Roberts.

The Juneau Empire reports that 35-year-old Michael Patrick Blaisdell, who was visiting from Orlando, went hiking alone Saturday morning. His body was found near the base of a 5-foot drop in Bear Valley, off the Mount Roberts trail system Sunday evening.

Blaisdell had sent his friend a picture of him grinning in front of a backdrop of mountain peaks Saturday. Shortly after the picture, he stopped responding to messages.

His body will be sent to the state medical examiner's office in Anchorage for an autopsy. Trooper Joshua Bentz, who coordinated the search, says that is standard procedure for all unattended deaths.
