Second Lynn University Body Found in Haiti

Christine Gianacaci was a sophomore at Lynn University

The body of a second Lynn University student missing in Haiti has been found under the rubble of the Hotel Montana, the university confirmed Thursday.

Christine Gianacaci, a native of Hopewell, N.J., was a 22-year-old sophomore at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.

"We are devastated to have lost Christine -- a young woman who was a bright light in the life of her family, her friends,
classmates and teachers," Lynn President Kevin Ross said in a statement.

On Wednesday, Courtney Hayes' family said authorities said the body of the 23-year old was found under the collapsed Hotel Montana building.

Hayes and Gianacaci were members of a dozen students and two faculty members from the university who were in Haiti on a service trip when the earthquake struck Jan. 12. Eight students were evacuated.

Still missing are students Stephanie Crispinelli of Katonah, N.Y., and Britney Gengel of Rutland, Mass. The missing professors are Dr. Patrick Hartwick and Dr. Richard Bruno.

University officials hired contractors in Haiti to try to find the missing students after the quake struck, but have given up hope on finding any of the remaining missing people alive. It was believed that Gianacaci was in her room at the Hotel Montana, a place frequented by foreign aid workers and diplomats.

A friend said she spoke with her parents just before the quake.

And her last Facebook update was full of optimism about her time in the Western Hemisphere's poorest nation: "Saving the world in Haiti," it said.
