Series Preview: Diamondbacks at Marlins

Miami will return home to host the Diamondbacks for a four-game series beginning on Monday

The Miami Marlins will begin a homestand with a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks beginning on Monday.

The Diamondbacks swept the Marlins in Arizona earlier this season and are sitting in first place in their division. Arizona is also coming in with a four-game winning streak, while Miami recently won a series in Colorado. The Marlins went 5-4 on their nine-game road trip and will now be home for ten games.

Dan Straily will be on the mound for Miami on Monday and will try again to turn things around. Miami has lost Straily's previous five starts and the veteran has been giving up home runs early and often. Straily has allowed four home runs combined in his last two starts and 11 on the season overall. Straily has an ugly 7.53 E.R.A through four starts in June.

Rookie Elieser Hernandez will be back in action for Tuesday's start and he is still looking for his first big-league win. Hernandez is 0-4 with a 5.12 E.R.A and allowed eight earned runs in his last three outings. Hernandez has done a good job of keeping his walk totals low, but he has been a little too hittable thus far in 2018.

Wei-Yin Chen was rocked in Colorado in his last outing and will next start on Wednesday. Chen allowed seven runs in four innings and saw his E.R.A rise to 6.70 on the season. The veteran lefty is 2-4 on the season and has been inefficient in most of his starts.

Trevor Richards is coming off one of the best starts of his career and will have an opportunity to win back-to-back games on Thursday. Richards is 2-4 in his rookie season and has won two of his last three starts. Richards allowed only one run on three hits in his last outing and he did it at Coors Field.

Derek Dietrich finished a triple shy of the cycle on Sunday in Colorado and lifted his average above .300. Dietrich has homered in three straight games and now has 11 on the season. The 28-year old has shined in his first opportunity to be an everyday player this season and has been one of Miami's most consistent players.

The series will begin on Monday at 7:10 p.m.
