Series Preview: Marlins at Brewers

The Marlins will visit Christian Yelich and the Brewers for a three-game series starting on Tuesday

The Miami Marlins will continue their road trip with a series against the Milwaukee Brewers beginning on Tuesday.

The Marlins have won four of their last five series and have improved their record to 21-36 on the year. After being on pace for the worst record in the history of Major League Baseball, the Marlins have been one of the hottest teams in baseball lately.

The Brewers are pacing the National League Central and Christian Yelich is a big reason for that. The former Marlin and 2018 Most Valuable Player has been having another MVP-type season in 2019. Yelich is Milwaukee's leader in a number of statistical categories and his 22 home runs lead all of baseball.

Pablo Lopez will start for Miami on Tuesday and will bring with him a 4.99 E.R.A. Lopez put together a quality start in a game against the San Francisco Giants his last time out. The right-hander came away with a no-decision in that contest and is 3-5 on the season. Lopez had a rough start against Milwaukee last season and will be looking for better results this time around.

Sandy Alcantara is coming off a quality start of his own and will start on Wednesday. The right-hander is 2-5 with a 4.08 E.R.A. and this will be his first time facing the Brewers as a starter. Alcantara pitched as a reliever for the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the trade with Miami and took on the Brewers in 2017. Alcantara has been inconsistent, but he has put together two of Miami's best outings during the 2019 campaign.

Caleb Smith has been slumping and has lost two straight games. Miami's ace will try to turn that around when he starts on Thursday. Smith was 3-1 prior to the two losses and his E.R.A sits at 3.10 on the season. The lefty struck out eight in his last outing, but he was only able to last five innings. Smith faced Milwaukee last season and pitched well, though he did get tagged with the loss in the start.

Harold Ramirez continues to be a big reason for Miami's recent improvement offensively. Ramirez is hitting .373 since joining the team in May and he has remained consistently hot. The outfielder is hitting .360 over the last seven days and has knocked in seven runs.

Garrett Cooper has at least one hit in six of his last seven games and is hitting .364 over the past week. Cooper also hit two home runs during the recent stretch, which lifted his season total to four.

Tuesday's game will get underway at 7:40 p.m.
