Giancarlo Stanton Returns to Miami as Yankees Take on Marlins

The Marlins will host Giancarlo Stanton and the Yankees for a two-game series beginning on Tuesday

The Miami Marlins will take on Giancarlo Stanton and the New York Yankees on Tuesday.

The Yankees are in town for a pair of games and the series will feature Stanton's return to Miami. After getting off to a slow start in the Bronx, Stanton has put together a fine season. The slugger is having a big month of August and is sitting on 299 career home runs.

The Marlins will likely hold a video tribute for Stanton, as they did for Marcell Ozuna earlier this season. Stanton could also receive a warm reception from the fans, before stepping into the batters box. In his final season with the Marlins, Stanton was named the league's Most Valuable Player. No Marlins player had ever captured the MVP award prior to Stanton.

The Marlins and Yankees split a series earlier this season in New York and CEO Derek Jeter was not in attendance for those two games. Jeter will likely be at Marlins Park for these two contests.

The Yankees enter the series with possession of the top Wild Card spot in the American League. New York is nine games back of the Boston Red Sox in the division at this time. While the division race is likely over, the Yankees have not locked up their Wild Card spot. These games are important for the Yankees and Marlins Park could have a playoff atmosphere.

Pablo Lopez will get the ball for the Marlins in Tuesday's series opener. Lopez is coming off a rough start against the Atlanta Braves, in which he allowed six runs in 5.1 innings. The rookie is 2-3 with a 4.79 E.R.A thus far in 2018. Lopez has allowed eight home runs in his eight starts and New York's lineup is capable of adding to that total.

Trevor Richards will start Wednesday's game for Miami. Richards was knocked around by the Braves his last time out. The rookie gave up ten hits and five runs in 4.1 innings. Richards has also struggled with home runs as of late. Opposing teams have hit four home runs combined in Richards' last two outings.

Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
