Several Inmates Suffer Seizures at Miami-Dade Jail: Police

Authorities said a group of inmates were suffering from seizures at the Miami-Dade jail Tuesday.

At least four inmates were suffering from seizures at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building on Northwest 12th Street, Miami-Dade Police said.

According to police, officers were called to a cell that was holding 24 men for a medical call. The four men complained of a medical sickness, officials said.

Footage showed several ambulances outside the building with some of the inmates being treated inside.

The inmates were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where two of them were listed in serious condition, officials said. The other two were taken as a precaution.

Because prisoners were involved, the streets around the hospital had to be shut down.

The inmates were later safely returned to the jail without incident, officials said.

The jail was placed on lockdown while the incident was being investigated, police said.
