A Jacksonville man is heading to prison after a judge gave him a life sentence for raping and kidnapping a woman.

The Florida Times-Union reports Rodney Charles Maxwell was convicted last month for the 2009 incident. The sentence was handed down on Thursday.

Officials say Maxwell grabbed the victim as she walked home and dragged her to a nearby park. The assault happened just two months after he'd been released early from prison on another sexual battery charge.

He had received a 40-year-sentence in 1991 for armed sexual battery, kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated assault and burglary.
