A sex offender wanted in Oregon was captured in the Florida Keys on Tuesday.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Stephan Brewer, 49, committed a sexual battery on a young child in Oregon, and failed to register in that state when he was released from prison. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest for violation of parole for failing to register as a sexual offender.
The U.S. Marshals Service contacted the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit after receiving a tip that Brewer might be in the Islamorada area.
On Tuesday at noon, officers located Brewer at a convenience store and placed him under arrest.
Brewer will be returned to Oregon to face charges.
