2-Year-Old Recovering After Being Shot in NE Miami-Dade, 2 Men Arrested

22-year-olds Donte Anthony Young-Sang and Caleb Christopher Myles arrested in shooting

Two men have been arrested after a shooting inside a northeast Miami-Dade home Thursday night that left a 2-year-old boy injured.

The shooting happened in the area of 1450 NE 202nd Street, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.

The child was shot inside a residence, police said. It's unclear what led up to the shooting.

On Friday, police announced that they arrested 22-year-olds Donte Anthony Young-Sang and Caleb Christopher Myles on charges related to the shooting.

Both face charges including child abuse, child neglect and culpable negligence, police said.

Myles, the boy's father, initially reported that the shooting was a result of a drive-by, police said. But police quickly discovered the shooting had taken place inside the home.

The victim was driven to Aventura Hospital by Myles and is recovering and in stable condition after being transferred to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, police said.

An arrest report said Myles and Young-Sang admitted that several firearms were unsecured in the home while the boy was present.

"This senseless gun violence is not acceptable," said Miami-Dade police director Juan Perez. "All hands on deck as we try to solve this heinous crime."

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade police or Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
