An early morning home invasion led to shots being fired and police searching for those involved in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Officers say the owner returned to his home near Southwest 143rd Court and 285th Terrace when he noticed two people burglarizing his residence. The owner confronted them, at which point the two men opened fire.

The homeowner, Filemon Ortiz, said they fired seven shots at him. Ortiz wasn’t struck by any bullets and the two men escaped on foot.

Miami-Dade police set up a perimeter in the area and are on the lookout for both men, who are said to be black males wearing hoodies.

Ortiz said the men got away with some jewelry but he was just grateful to be alive.
