Shots Fired in Miami Gardens Near Dolphins Home Rebuild Event

Police are investigating a morning shooting outside a Miami Gardens home just blocks from where members of the Miami Dolphins organization were helping to rebuild the home of a veteran.

Police confirmed they responded to reports of shots being fired around 9 a.m. near a home off Northwest 38th Avenue, saying that two persons of interest were taken into custody and a home has been secured until officers can get a search warrant to enter.

The shooting occurred near a scene where Miami Gardens officials, including Mayor Oliver Gilbert, were joined by members of the Dolphins’ staff, cheerleaders and select former players were helping to rebuild the home of a longtime Army veteran who lived off Northwest 39th Court and 202nd Street as part of a Rebuilding Together service project.

No current members of the team’s roster or coaching staff were scheduled to appear and police are still investigating the incident.
