Showtime Releases Marlins Franchise Series Preview

A special 30-minute preview of "The Franchise: A Season With the Miami Marlins" will air Saturday night

Showtime released an extended trailer for its baseball series "The Franchise," on Tuesday, featuring the Miami Marlins. The clip immediately makes clear that the TV network made a wise choice in selecting the Marlins as the team it would feature on the show in 2012.

The trailer runs for less than three minutes, but features a number of themes that will get much coverage throughout the series: the weighty expectations placed on the team following a dramatic makeover, the relationship between star infielders Hanley Ramirez and Jose Reyes, and the controversial comments manager Ozzie Guillen made about Fidel Castro early in the season.

Watch the clip below:

The clip suggests the first episode will include a number of potentially juicy moments caught on film, including Guillen learning of his suspension from team president David Samson as well as the Spring Training Playstation MLB games between Reyes and Ramirez.

Viewers will also be treated to Guillen's opening remarks to his team during spring training, which are predictably full of expletives.

Showtime will air a special preview episode of The Franchise on Saturday, April 21, at 9 pm EDT. The full series will begin airing on July 11.
