The Miami Marlins are having a tough time on the road this season, and are now 2-10 away from Marlins Park with their 4-0 loss to the Mets on Sunday.
Tom Koehler had his toughest start of the season lasting only five innings in which he allowed four runs on four walks and five hits. It was an unexpected result for the native New Yorker who entered the game with 18 straight scoreless innings against the Mets. Koehler clearly didn't have his best stuff from the get-go sending many pitches sailing outside. It was the opposite of what Koehler had done in his previous starts where he was efficient and showed exceptional control. The right-hander managed to escape multiple jams that would've allowed the game to get out of hand. Carter Capps was the first man out of the pen for Miami with his debut for the team. Capps who was acquired for Logan Morrison in the off-season tossed two perfect innings which included three strikeouts. Brad Hand pitched the ninth in scoreless fashion with a strikeout.
The Marlins only had three hits as a team and they were all singles with one each coming from Marcell Ozuna, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and Garrett Jones. Miami was 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left a total of five men on base. Giancarlo Stanton who had a tough road trip overall outside of his home run on Saturday was 0-3 with a strikeout. The Marlins' slugger has seen his batting average slip from .329 to .270 in the last nine days.
Miami is off on Monday before opening a series against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday at home. Jose Fernandez is scheduled to make the start.
