The man posed as a utility worker and stole a box of jewelry from an elderly couple, BSO said

The Broward Sheriff's Office released a sketch of a man they say posed as a utility worker and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from an elderly couple in Tamarac.

On Sept. 13 at 11:15 a.m, the suspect knocked on the door of a 91-year-old woman saying that he was going to test her water by spraying something into her toilets and sinks.

The and her 96-year-old husband said they thought the man was a legitimate worker because City of Tamarac workers had been in the area a week before.

The man went to the guest bathroom and as teh elderly man went to turn on the faucet, the man sprayed a liquid on his arm and said it was acid, authorities said.

They all went into the master bedroom where the suspect told the couple to wait for him by he got a "treatment cream" from his car.

But he didn't return and instead stole a box of jewelry, authorities said.

He was wearing a yellow hard hat, a reflective vest and light-colored pants, the sheriff's office said.
