Small Alligator Captured at Pembroke Pines School, Returned Back to Everglades

What to Know

  • Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission took the reptile to the nearby Everglades and released it back.

Officers were called to a Pembroke Pines school early Wednesday morning thanks to a scaly trespasser – an alligator that made its way onto campus.

The city’s police department tweeted out a photo showing Ofc. Victoria Lima with the animal that was captured at the north campus of Somerset Academy, located off Johnson Street near U.S. 27.

Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission took the reptile to the nearby Everglades and released it back – while reminding the public that younger gators tend to make their way into residential areas during mating season.

Anyone who encounters one in the coming months is advised to call 911 or the FWC.
