A man on the run for more than 24 hours after shooting at Miami-Dade police officers was in custody in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Police in Knoxville say officers recognized a stolen car with Florida plates at a Value Inn. Officers went door to door to try to locate the driver.
That's when the suspect, later identified as Matthew Pryor, 30, opened his door and shot one time striking the officer in the chest area.
The officer will be OK because he was wearing a protective vest, according to Knoxville Police.
Pryor barricaded himself and refused to come out. But, as members of the department's Special Operation Squad got to the scene, he gave himself up.
The Miami-Dade Police Department says arrangements will be made to begin the extradition process.
Pryor has been on the run since Tuesday, when he allegedly opened fire on officers who were trying to serve probation warrants at his Miami-Dade home.
Police said Pryor fled the scene and carjacked a woman, making off in her Nissan Rogue.
Pryor was described as a career criminal, with previous arrests for theft and burglary.
His mother and sister said his recent connection with the Islamic religion changed him.
"This is not my son, this is not his nature to do this and I don't understand it," mother Elaine Pryor said. "Ever since he has been involved in that religion his attitude has changed, he is totally a different person."

"Thank God my brother did not hurt me or hurt anybody, he really seemed like he was trying to do a turnaround," sister Melissa Pryor said.
