A Florida mother is behind bars after being arrested after deputies found six children living in conditions they called some of the “worst they had ever seen.”

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office published on Facebook that 30-year-old Sara Resko was arrested at her home near Ocala on Tuesday and charged with six counts of child neglect.

According to MCSO, deputies were called to the home after a 2-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy were seen wandering in the road with the female child not fully clothed and both children infested with lice and suffering from open sores.

While investigating, four more children ranging in age from six to 13 years old arrived at the home – all of them also covered in lice and open sores – saying Resko left them there while she went to work.

Once deputies entered the home, they found no food, electricity or running water along with an infestation of flies and dog feces covering the floor.

Resko arrived at the home 90 minutes after deputies responded, saying she had been gone just a few minutes. Officials discovered two incidents in the past 16 months where children had been left alone at the home – including a February 2018 incident in which Florida’s Department of Children and Families responded.

The children were taken into DCF custody while Resko was placed under arrest.
