Son Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of Mother: Coral Springs Police

He faces charges including first-degree murder and resisting without violence, according to an arrest report

A man was arrested for fatally stabbing his mother in Coral Springs, authorities announced Sunday.

Police arrested Dee Jony Etienne, 30, for the fatal stabbing Saturday night. He faces charges including first-degree murder and resisting without violence, according to an arrest report.

His mother, 53-year-old Joceleine Pericles, was found with multiple stab wounds lying inside the front door of a home on the 3700 block of Riverside Drive. She was transported to Broward Health North and pronounced dead, Coral Springs Police said.

"Obviously something must have went wrong inside his head," said Lt. Joe McHugh. "For somebody to stab their mother, that's a horrific crime to commit."

Four hours later, Etienne was apprehended in a wooden area near the Crescent Cove Apartment Complex. He sustained a bite wound from a police dog after he failed to surrender, officials said.

"The Broward County Sheriff's helicopter was able to locate him inside the wooded area behind us using an infrared system, at which time that's when we deployed our team and canine officers," McHugh said.

While being placed into custody, Etienne said that “the knife was left behind in the house,” according to authorities.

Coral Spring Police were alerted to the alleged crime after a caller told them that there was a woman screaming for help. He told authorities that he saw a man “standing over the victim punching her about her body, pulling her arm and yelling for her to get into the residence,” the affidavit said.

The caller also told police the woman said that she was dying, the affidavit said.

Etienne is expected to appear in bond court Sunday. It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
