South Florida Forensic Teams Blow Up Bus for Training

Simulated bus explosion to examine response to a drill of a terrorist attack

Forensic teams from across South Florida tested their skills on a simulated bus explosion as part of a training exercise Thursday.

Agencies from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties converged in West Palm Beach County to examine their response to a drill of a terrorist attack.

Teams took turns examining the remains of the blown out bus for twenty minutes. Manny Cela, with the South Florida Regional Planning Council says the goal is collaboration.

"They're trying to find out what happened, how it happened," he said, and even reconstruct the explosive device.

The crews training are not rescuers. They're piecing together the steps of the simulated attack.

"We're here to make sure standard guidelines...work well," Cela explained.
