A bar in Palm Beach County is coming under fire after a social media post advertising a ladies night event that some say was insulting to women and members of the LGBTQ community.

Kavasutra Kava Bar in Lake Worth posted the message to their Instagram account on Sunday for what they called a “genetic female slam.” In the post, the bar wrote “Chicks means born with a vagina. You must have ovaries” as well as several hashtags seen by some as transphobic and sexist.

"We should be trying to unite the community and celebrating our diversity versus trying to exclude people because they’re different," Heather Wright, who leads a trans support group at Compass in Lake Worth, told NBC affiliate WPTV.

The post was met with criticism from social media users, with the bar responding to one commenter by saying in part “the point of ladies night is to get ladies in the door so men can (expletive) them.”

Officials from the city condemned the post, while the company’s COO released a statement.

“Kavasutra Kava Bar is virulently and adamantly opposed to discrimination in all forms. Any such inequity or prejudice will be met with swift physical removal from in or around our establishment,” Mike Klein wrote in part. “Our friends and patrons understand this policy and our convictions.”

The bar has five locations in the state of Florida – including one in Fort Lauderdale and another in Deerfield Beach – as well as locations in New York City and Denver.
