South Florida Stepping Up for Florence Victims

The torrential rain from Florence may be coming to an end in the Carolinas, but the slow-motion disaster from river flooding will continue to wreak havoc across the region for potentially weeks. 

The Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition and DJ Nacho Productions have teamed up to help residents in the Carolinas, and they're asking for help.

Felix Casado is spending the next several days collecting donations in South Florida. He's hoping to fill trucks and 18-wheelers with all kinds of supplies such as medication, first-aid kits, CPR masks, shock blankets, batteries, flashlights, water and more and is shipping them off to the Carolinas.

Casado is accepting all donations from noon to 6 p.m. through Thursday inside Arnold Hall and the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds at 10901 SW 24th Street. People are encouraged to donate the following items:

  • Bottled Water
  • Non-Perishable Canned Foods & Dry Milk
  • Baby Supplies (Pampers, Powdered Milk & Pedialyte)
  • Toiletries, feminine products & adult diapers
  • Flashlights & battery-operated lanterns
  • Batteries, especially C & D
  • Hand Sanitizers
  • Personal Wipes
  • Cleaning Wipes
  • First Aid Kits & Supplies
  • Wal-Mart Gift Cards
  • Garbage Bags
  • New Brooms & Mops
  • Battery Operated Radios
  • Plastic Tarps
  • Over-the-Counter Medications
  • Batteries C & D
  • Mosquito Repellent & Nets
  • Paper Products (i.e. Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Napkins, Paper Cups, Plastic Utensils)
