South Florida Museums Offer Special Discounts After Irma

As South Florida assesses the damage from Hurricane Irma and a sense of normalcy slowly trickles in, local museums are offering deals and discounts to help bring the community some relief.

To honor emergency dispatchers and first responders, the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science will offer special discounts to first responders, military and veterans with a valid ID, according to a news release. The Pérez Art Museum will also be granting free admission to South Florida residents on Sept. 14 and 15.

In addition, the Pérez Art Museum will host happy hour specials -- including a "hurricane specialty cocktail" -- from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. On both Thursday and Friday, the museum’s Verde restaurant and bar will be open, as well as arts and crafts at the Vattikuti Learning Theatre.

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science re-opens on Friday, Sept. 15. The special discount for emergency personnel is valid until Oct.1, the museum said.
