South Florida Seeing The Calm After the Storm, After Thursday's Downpours

South Miami Avenue is cleaned up and back open after a huge mess shut it down Thursday Afternoon.

Minutes before rush hour a large tree came crashing down on top of two cars stopped at the intersection.

Alessandro Capuccio said it came from nowhere, "I'm still in shock a tree fell on my car," he said.

He and the driver in a white Toyota Camry were not hurt.

City crews cut up the tree and hauled most of it out of the way within two hours. The only sign of the mess that was here earlier are the shards of glass the still litter the street.

It wasn't high winds or severe weather being blamed for the toppled tree. Officials said the saturated ground from days of rain may have caused it to give way.

"It was a miracle it didn't go to the drivers side or anything, thank god I left my family at home safe otherwise it'd be a different story," Capuccio said.

Much more menacing clouds were caught on video near Belle glade in western palm beach county.

A funnel cloud grew into a tornado, but there was no damage.

And in Downtown Miami, the rain didn't stop the Mercedes Benz Corporate Run.

Thousands of runners and walkers were ready and even welcomed the downpour.
