State officials are warning South Florida beachgoers about rip currents throughout the rest of the week.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management reports that there will be a high risk of frequent rip currents in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties through Sunday. A moderate risk of rip currents is also expected for the rest of Florida's east coast.
Officials say swimming in the Atlantic Ocean can be dangerous when red flags are flying.
A rip current is a narrow, powerful current of water that runs perpendicular to the beach, out into the ocean.
