Fake Stallone Stuntman Busted Boosting Boat

Man claiming to be the stunt man in "Rocky" also told police he was filming with Robert DeNiro

Ira Bershatsky might not be an actor, but he portrays a pretty convincing criminal in real life, Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies claim.

Bershatsky, a 62-year-old Boca Raton resident, was arrested Monday night and charged with grand theft for allegedly boosting a boat in Key Largo.

When he was stopped by deputies, Bershatsky told them he was famous actor Sam Elliot and that they might have seen him in the famous boxing movie, "Rocky," an arrest report stated.

Bershatsky claimed to be Sylvester Stallone's stunt double and also told deputies he was currently filming with Robert DeNiro, the report stated.

That's not bad A-list company, but that didn't explain why the man was speeding with a stolen boat hitched to his vehicle.

Officials said they did not know what Bershatsky's profession was.

The arrest report said Bershatsky was towing the boat at a high rate of speed despite the boat's trailer riding on a blown tire. The smoke from the rim grinding on the asphalt drew the attention of deputies, the report stated.

Authorities tracked down the boat's real owner, who said the vessel had been stolen.

Bershatsky was being held in Monroe County jail on no bond. It was unclear if he had an attorney.
