One of the 17 victims killed in the Stoneman Douglas mass shooting, 17-year-old Joaquin Oliver, was a huge Dwyane Wade fan. So much so, that he was buried wearing the star basketball player’s No. 3 Miami Heat jersey.
Oliver’s parents revealed Sunday on the Spanish talk show Al Punto that their son donned Wade’s jersey during burial, according to the Miami Herald.
Wade caught wind of the news spreading on Twitter, and responded in a retweet Sunday afternoon saying, "You’re about to make me cry."
"Joaquin was one of many that I heard was excited about my return to Miami and yesterday he was buried in my jersey," Wade said in a follow-up tweet Monday evening. "This is why we will not just shut up and dribble."
On Saturday, the Miami Heat played their first home game at the AmericanAirlines Arena since the tragic shooting on Feb. 14. The team held a touching tribute to the victims as the players and coaches held a Stoneman Douglas flag on the court with a video tribute playing on the monitors above.
"Tonight we honor the 17 lives that were tragically lost in Parkland," said Wade as the tribute commenced.
During the tribute, the players were uniformed in black shirts with the words "unify, empower, activate, equality, love" and more powerful words sprawled across the front.
