Student Arrested for Hoax Threat at Young Men's Preparatory Academy: Miami-Dade School Chief

A student was arrested after making a hoax threat on social media, Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent said Tuesday.

Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said the student made the threat against Young Men's Preparatory Academy on Northwest 2nd Avenue in Miami.

Carvalho said there was an extra police presence at the school in an abundance of caution.

"Parents, I urge you to continue to speak to your children about the consequences of posting messages of a threatening nature or that can disrupt the educational environment," Carvalho tweeted. "Hoax threats dealt with to the full extent of law."

Officials said a parent monitoring their child's social media feed saw the threatening post Monday night and alerted authorities.

One student told NBC 6 that the 8th grader who was arrested uploaded a photo of a gun and the school's yearbook and put a color-coded dot on students and staff members.

"The post was saying 'green you're good, yellow you're my dogs, and red you're dead,'" the student said.
