What to Know

  • UF professors in Gainesville got an average 8.8 percent salary increase in 2017-18.
  • Average full professor salary at Florida is $149,100, second-highest in the state behind the private University of Miami at $164,200.

A new study says the University of Florida is ahead of the rest of the state when it comes to bumping up pay for its professors.

The Daytona Beach News Journal reported full-time UF professors in Gainesville got an average 8.8 percent salary increase in 2017-18. A study by the American Association of University Professors says associate professors got an 8.3 percent bump.

Both figures were the highest increases among 23 Florida colleges and universities in the survey. Average full professor salary at Florida is $149,100, second-highest in the state behind the private University of Miami at $164,200.

University of Florida President Kent Fuchs says the pay increases are in line with the school's mission to climb from a top 10 public institution in the country to the top five.
