Subtropical Storm Andrea formed Monday evening in the Atlantic, some 700 miles northeast of Miami.
The system was investigated by a reconnaissance aircraft and found to have a closed circulation and winds of 40 mph, but meteorologists say it is expected to weaken late Tuesday and dissipate on Wednesday.
The system is not a threat to the United States while the National Hurricane Center says people in Bermuda should monitor the storm's progress for the next few days.
While hurricane season, officially, begins in the Atlantic basin on June 1st, having a preseason storm is not uncommon.
This is the fifth consecutive year a storm, whether tropical or sub-tropical, has formed ahead of the official start of the season.
