A lieutenant with Sunrise Police Department has been put on administrative leave after allegedly sending information on confidential informants to a South Florida Sun Sentinel reporter.
Roger Krege has been with the department for nearly 20 years and is now facing three felony charges, including unlawful copying of trade secrets.
In the arrest warrant, created by Sunrise Lieutenant P. Brian Katz, Krege is accused of using two emails to send and obtain confidential information on active criminal intelligence. That information included the names of informants, which was kept in an undercover database few people had access to.
The warrant says the criminal intelligence was being made public in articles published by the news orginzation.
It is not clear which stories contained the confidential information. But, the Sun Sentinel reports it did publish a story exposing the tactics Sunrise police use to lure "big-money drug buyers" back in 2014.
In a statement, the Sunrise Police Department said: "On Thursday September 12, Roger Krege was placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation."
