‘Superhero' 8-Year-Old Boy Saves Grandmother From Miami Gardens House Fire

The only thing his grandmother was able to save from the fire was her mother's ashes.

An 8-year-old boy is being called a "superhero" after he saved his grandmother from a fire that burned their Miami Gardens home.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a townhouse on fire at around 8 p.m. Thursday in the 16000 block of NW 38th Place. Eight-year-old Armon Myers smelled the fire and ran up the stairs to alert his grandmother, who was sleeping.

"I told her, 'Wake up! Wake up!'" the boy said. He dragged her down the stairs by the leg, and they were able to make it out on time before the fire spread.

The boy said the fire killed his cat and destroyed his belongings including his clothes and shoes, but his grandmother was able to save only one thing.

"I got my mom," his grandmother said as she clutched a vase containing her mother's ashes. "The most important thing to me in the world."

The cause of the fire was under investigation. There were no reported injuries.

A previous version of this story misidentified Armon Myers.
